I am off to try find my granddaughters a treasure for a Christmas present. Something that they will talk about for a least the next week or two that her grandma found the greatest gift. I do have a few ideas in store. However, as I look over their rooms, I happen to notice that many of the items I have given them in the past are long gone.

It is funny what we think as a treasure. One Christmas when cash was extremely tight, I asked my husband what was on his Christmas list and he told me he really wanted some new socks.

I thought SOCKS!, well at least I could afford that.

So I got him, 2 packs, with 3 pairs in each pack. Just some nice black dress socks for work.

Well, I couldn’t just wrap them and stick them under the tree. So I wrapped just one and put that under the tree with a hint on were he could find the next one.

He opened the first, only to find one, a half of a pair, and read the note on the inside, he was off. with a great, huge, huge smile on his face.

The first one took him out to the wood shed. From there he went to the grain barrel out in the barn, to his Aussie parka, to his car, the dog house, his saddle bags, out to his workshop he so happily went, a 1/2 mile hike to the mail box, and on to a treasured adventure that took nearly 2 hours.

That was the leanest Christmas we ever had, and it was also one of the ones that we would talk about years to come. Even after all these years, when I think about how he laughed, I can not help but smile. Now there is a Christmas gift.

I have to remember that is not about just the gift, but the love that goes behind it.

This Christmas, it is my greatest wish that you find the love in all of your gifts, both those you give and those you receive.

Happy Holidays

Daily Oats: Food for the horse lovers soul

Within the days of my youth, I would spend hours in the barn just listening. Every time when I would feel lonely or lost, I would head to the barn. Behind the silence of the closed barn doors, was music that captured my heart and soul. Music designed by the occasional hoof beat on the wooden planks on the stall floor, the sound of hay being pulled from a hay feeder, the swish of a long tail, the sound of a heavy breath, and I would try to pause as long as I could to hear the sound of the horses enjoying every morsel of oats.

It was within the creation of the symphony “Dance with Horses” that made the troubles of the world that would had totally tied in knots, just melt away, even if it was for only a few moments. The music of the horse, allows the world to stop and allowed me to connect with my soul.

It is called unconditional love. It is funny, that even just standing their eating, or just swishing their tail how their love can bring such piece to our hearts.

What I learned in my youth, I still find great comfort in as an adult. When I find myself in those moments of such loneliness or despair, their is nothing better than a trip to the barn and a few moments of complete solitude with someone that allows me to be totally me.

However, what I realized is those moments of great despair only occur when I am not returning that same unconditional love to those around me.

It is when I forget to show gratitude for the countess blessing in my life, that devastating loneliness and desperation appear and fill me to the such dept that I can no longer cope. I still love the fact I can go to listen to the music in the barn, hug a horse and get lost for a few moments. However, the trouble with the horse fix, is that sooner or later, I have to return to deal with the same situation before I escaped to listen to the music of the barn.

I do not want to find myself only happy when I am out in the barn. In my life, I want more. I want more of truly matters. Along the way, someone gave me a gratitude rock . You might have heard of them. Just a rock that you sick in your pocket. Then every time you put your hand in your pocket, you count some of the blessings in your life. It allows the word gratitude to sink into our minds and souls.

At my worst moments, shortly after my husband died, I had to make a list and kept it on the frig. I would read it every time I opened the refrigerator door. Here is a sad fact, but so true of many of us: I learned more about gratitude for my life, after my husbands death than every before.

I no longer want to wait till after some tragic event occurs in my life to show those around me the blessing they are to me. I want to offer than whenever they are around me the Symphony of the “Dancing with Horses: a symphony for life. I want to make sure that they know how much they have captured my soul as well.

For today, I will share the music “Dancing with horses” and the peace that lives within their unconditional love, not only with the horses but with all those that cross my path.

I will “be the Gratitude “to all the Whinnies that capture my heart.

During this Holiday Season, please Remember: BE THE WHINNY and greet the world like your horse greets you, with unconditional love filled the rafters of your life.

In the moonlight on this perfect Christmas morn
But a step in the frozen snow should I take,
when to ears I hear my horse morning nickers
Still dark so the outline of the barn I can hardly make

I know my eyes weren’t deceive’n
I notice the barn door slightly a jar
Who and the heck, whos been so stupid
………………..My horses just must be a freezin’

I gabbed the barn door
still as mad as a thorny old thistle
There in the moonlight of the upcoming day
What the heck, what is this I see?
For Christmas, did my wife buy me a fancy new sleigh?

When out of nowhere, something I did hear
Wait a minute, low sounds come to my ear
To my horses a man was softly a talkin’
Was that the horns of a reindeer?

The stallion, his ears forward and being so alert
Looked just like he know what the old man had to say
As I grabbed for a pitch fork, “Hey, you there”
“You better get away from my big dark Bay”

Tressspassin’? Deadly offense
“What the hell do you think you’re a doin’?”
“Who gave you permission?”
Stop right there, mister, you better not be a movin’

Just who might you be anyway?
A red suit, don’t Santa you make
“Did you bring that animal here just to eat,
……………………………while we’re all in the house mostly asleep?”

That weird looking animal eatin’ all my darn hay
By gosh, even Santa would know it cost half my pay
you better darn well replace it

………..….on here, this Christmas day!

Quick could be, he turned around and looked right at me
Even half asleep, I knew him right away
It surely looked like Santa
can you believe this, him!……Santa makin’ off with my hay!

He looked me right in the eye
and in a loud voice, “I ain’t stealin that hay!”
Louder he told “Listen up here young Cowboy”!
I really got to borrow that big dark bay

My reindeer, Rudy, ya know
He complainin’, says it’s just too harsh n’cold
to fly anymore in this year’s heaviest snow
And now, that damn old fool, well, he just refuses to go

I got presents to deliver, moments are passin’!
Children sent thousands of letters
Make it clear now Cowboy, I have to get goin’
I ain’t standing here listen to your mouth me a’ trashin”

That stud of yours,
Man, he looks to be mighty fine
If we sprinkle him with some flying dust
Then we could hock him to that sled of mine!

I though to myself
This old man has to be half nuts
If he only knew, I still walk with a limp
When that old stud kicked my leg as he aimed for me butt!

My shoulder sure been a hurtin’
since he me toppled me over just to get in
He bits me nearly every damn day
As I givin him a flake of …….expensive alfalfa hay

He has stomped on my foot
I’ve been told the farrier won’t ever come back
If it wasn’t for his champion filly’s
I would never cut that bay any slack

It takes me near an hour
to get him all saddled and tacked
And then it’s a darn fight
till the moment we get back

Like most of us men
He’s got no concentration
Snortin and Buckin all the darn time
Just tryin to get any filly’s attention

Well now, I got me a lot of other fine quality colts
So I started to wonder if this old man
what kind of trade for that dark old bay
Don’t think I would much miss that stubborn old goat

Ready to deal, I stared down that old Santa
and asked “So just what are you thinkin?”
By the way, What good is a reindeer
”Does that red nose ever stop blinkin’?

My old stud, I said” A class act, a world champion stallion
For Santa wouldn’t look at anything less
Seemed pretty strange, even bugged me a little
For that old stallion was really quite a pitiful mess

I giggled as he threw in elves toppin’ off the bargin
One year of no chores for me and the wife
A little cash n’ he’d leave me all those Christmas presents
I thought I just made the greatest deal of my life

Well, will you just look at that darn horse of mine
Santa was quite the horseman
With a whisper and a wink of an eye,
that dark bay harnessed in no time!

In his bright red suit, he tossed up magical dust,
just like that, all four feet started flyin
That old man, smartly cracked that long whip
Oh my God, could this truly be the real St. Nick

Rudy and me just stood there stupidly lookin’
Wow, my old stallion flying and pulling that sleigh
I was a proud as could be,
That old dark bay was finally good fo somethin’

I remember it so, as being such a great Christmas
The elves, all my barn chores now their a doin’
For me, can you imagine,
For a year, no poop would I be a movin’

My cowgirl she too is mighty happy too
For ever since last Christmas
Not much has either one of us been doin’
but together, we here in the house sittin’ just a chillin’

Months passed, summer came and gone
Fall ‘s around the corner, but what I want, real real bad
Takin’ a horse to that world championship show
Ain’t taken that reindeer even if he is all that I had

For now, Rudy, reindeer, all I have to ride
and By God, make note, he is so damn slow
most of the time, he just refuses to go
and be fully aware, reindeer ain’t got no power sterrin‘

Lately, I been gettin’ kind of lazy and fat
Mornin’ paper, every day I now get to see
While the elves do all my ranchin’ for me
Wait one darn minute, This truly can’t be

What to my wonderin’ eyes do I see
Blue ribbion on haning side of a red truck on a stick

Please, don’t tell me after just one year,
this surly really can’t be my old bay and Mr. St Nick

There in the headlines, the story be told
“Tired reindeer my AS_! ” How could this be
A reindeer, cheap gifts, elves, my priceless stud had been sold
How Santa just made a complete fool out of me

That red suited old man,
On my favorite old stud did he ride
Wouldn’t you know
They completely won the entire
…………………………………….World Championship show!!

What else can I say, but

……………………………………………………………………………GO, SANTA , GO

Happy Holidays~!!

I am a Cowgirl, and I can fly without wings.
I just climb on my favorite stead, and close my eyes.
I know he will take me to places I have never been.

I may not have been to Congress or to World
But I know that, it is within my horse’s heart
That we are the greatest that has ever been told.

I am a Cowgirl, and I can fly without wings.
I just climb on my favorite stead, and close my eyes.
To create memories that allow my soul to sing

It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow. So saddle-up and make sure you take your “dream your own impossible” with you on every ride.

No matter how difficult the challenge, when we spread our wings of faith and allow the winds of God’s spirit to lift us, no obstacle is too great to overcome.” – Roy Lessin

I am a Cowgirl, and I can fly without wings I just climb on my favorite steed and I close my eyes, for I know that it is within my horse’s heart, I have found the greatest love there has ever been.

Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you’re scared. – Be inspired with the beauty of the love of a horse and the greatness of your own heart.

Give a horse what he needs, and in return.. He will give you his heart.

Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. It is the way every Cowgirl learns to ride.

I only wish I was a forgiving to myself as my horse and my dogs are to me.

Do you ever wonder, when you are out by the barn, how such a little bird can make such a beautiful song, like it they were singing just in the joy of seeing you? I am that tiny bird with my own big song!

The toughest part of getting to the top of the class, is making sure you at the arena’s gate, the same goes with every cowgirls life.

Always remember this, you just might need it: You can’t run with the big dogs if you pee like a puppy.

The cowgirl way: Use a short rope, a sweet smile, and a hot brand Laugh loudly, Pray often, Feel deeply, Express fearlessly, Play hard, Work joyously, Commit totally, Touch tenderly, live consciously, Love a horse and Ride like you stole it

I am convinced that our happiness or our unhappiness depends on how we ride our horse down the trail rather than the trail that we are riding on, and so is life.

It is not the end of the ride that we look forward to, but the ride itself, no matter what trail that may be.

Most of the time, it is not the long rides the a beautiful country road we remember the most, but It is rides across the greatest terrain, the steepest hills, the wider rivers that brings us to the greatest adventures that we will talk about years to come.

It is learning to ride those steepest trails, those rising mountains and the flash floods and rising waters of the rivers, that we arrive at our greatest potential.

So, my wish for you today, is no-matter what is going on in your life, is to also remember to grab a little leather, hang on with every thing that is in you, and ride-BABY ride.

As long as you live to tell everyone that you made it across the river, the ride will always be worth the trip. Just look for the lesson because you will have gained experience, knowledge and you will have expanded your soul.

Just a Ridin’ for the WHINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNY!!

My favorite saying: “You do not have to overcome fear: you just need something more important.” I believe that to be the horse.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

What is it that you can not do? How long have you held that fear in your heart? How many evenings have you spent in the barn with tears in your eyes, telling the one that would always keep your secret?
I too have told those secrets only to my four legged friends.
You might not believe this, but mine is getting to close to people and I have endless conversations with my horse.: sometimes with tears.
The horse never tells, just understands.

But here is the thing, any fear keeps us away for love. I keeps us separated from who we really are.
I think I will find a human to spend part of the day with today. What do I have to lose and just maybe, I will find a new soul to connect to. An Idea to share, a love to find, a fellow horse nut to share stories with and perhaps a deep, life long horse lovers connection.

Now, tell me What’s yours secret fear? Today, be inspired and tell your fear, face it down and stomp on it.

Love your daily oats Roberta
For today, Whinny with as much Bliss as you can release from your heart. That’s it, let it go, deep from within your soul. No matter what is going on with your life, a few moments connect to your horse and your day will change.

Sometimes, I just get in the mood to tell horse stories. I have a life time full. Story after story filled with tears, pain, dreams, hope, failures and once in a while filled with fame and maybe, just maybe a little glory. But here is the thing, just like you, good or bad, every story is overflowing with love.

I know for a fact that you have experienced this as well, you meet someone and they tell you of a horse they had when they were young, or perhaps some great adventure that they went on at one time with a horse, or one great ride. Their words speak of a great adventure, but their voice and their eyes tell another. I can tell, within a few words if they found the Bliss of life, the life’s love or they just went for a ride.

Now, there is nothing wrong with just going for a ride, but to love, to connect, to bond, as you well know, instantly creates a life worth living.

Imagine, Every time you place your hands about a horse head and they allow you to become part of the their world as you gently touch your fingers to their powerful cheeks, and a thousand pounds of living nobility and beauty melts into your hands, how honored do you feel. In that moment, you know they allowed you to touch their very soul.

And for a moment, your the world stops, and hovers in the very aspect of what every human lives for: Love!

Without every meeting you, I know our worlds have touched as we bring their world into ours as much as possible.

I bet you too, have horse pictures throughout your house, statues, ribbons ect, ect, ect. Every item a small tale of your world and life’s story. I have been told by a college roommate, that I was totally off the deep end, because every extra minute was spent with my horses. To me, it just seemed like what I was supposed to do. Sometimes, a few of us are lucky enough, to no longer even separate the two worlds. If fact, they can not be separated when such a bond becomes a way of life.

Perhaps, every true horseman is somewhat little crazy, but here is the thing, at least in this lifetime, you know where your Bliss is. You know where your heart was meant to be. To hell with the rest.

You are so lucky. Sometimes, I ask myself, why I do what I do, as far as Knot-a-Tail is concerned, but then my heart answers. Just like you, I just could not and would not have it any other way.

A horse allows you to feel connected. They allow you to feel loved. Two very hard things to find in this world sometimes.

To love, to live for the beauty and heart of another is rare, even when that love is for a heart of your horse. I just wanted to congratulate you on a job well done.

So for today, just go to the barn, and enjoy. No worries, no regrets, no fears, just love. Just enjoy for few will every get the change to experience the depth of another heart the way you get to connect to the love of a horse.

For today, Whinny with as much Bliss as you can release from your heart. That’s it, let it go, deep from within your soul. No matter what is going on with your life, a few moments connect to your horse and your day will change.

You grab a cup of coffee and step out side into the warmth of the morning sun just as it is beginning to rise. It is a warm glow of reds, orange surrounded by a mountain of yellow as it peeks over the tops of the trees filled with warmth and the hints of a beautiful day.

You take a deep, cleansing breath and head for the barn. But before you even get near the barn, the first morning whinny’s start.

The whinny is long, clear and loving. It is the only way a horse person loves to start any morning, no matter what the weather. It brings a smile across your face, it lifts your spirits to a new heights, it opens your heart and makes any chores so worth every moment as you listen to their sound of your horses expressing their love towards you. Yes, it is their spoken words of love and their morning desire to see you again. They wait and as you step in the barn all eyes turn towards you.

Love, joy, delight and of course unguarded love, pure communication, a connection of treasure and delight.

Inspiration to last a lifetime.

How would you like to connect to the other humans in your life as much as you connect to your the love that inspires your every morning?

Here is the essence of a true whinny to offer the humans in your life.

Stay in the moment, as if you were your horse knowing that the door is about to open

Get transfixed as if nothing in your life was more important at that moment. Remember the joy you feel the moment you open the door, and the whinny’s flow to your ears.

Pause before replying, Enjoy the moment. Here there is a 3 second rule

Use the secret of Charm: make them feel as important as your horse makes you feel.

Now, Never and I do mean never criticize or find fault with the whinny. Let them be themselves. Total acceptance, just like your horse, treat them like they are a miracle of nature. Just enjoy and smile

Show your appreciation that they gave you a whinny

Give your approval and ongoing praise

Just like you horse, the most important thing you can do is to just give them some personnel attention. That way they will fell more important and valuable.

How important is that to anyone’s spirit?

Everyone at one point or another wants to find a way to change the world, but all they have to do is act like a horse and give a great big WHINNY. Can you image a world where everyone would love to take a morning walk outside to listed to a world filled with Whinny’s.

If you treated the word with your whinny just as your horse greets you each morning, you can change the world around you, just like your horse has changed your entire life.

Just recall, your horses never questions why you come to the barn, they just loves that you came to see them.

Whinny’s Roberta

PS tell me how you are greeted each morning. I would love to know.

Let it all go and just be the WHINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNY!!
